Tyler, The Creator’s artistic evolution has been massive over the last decade. His rise to fame came alongside Odd Future, who dropped their first mixtape, The Odd Future Tape, in 2008. The project, which was mostly produced by Tyler, not only showed Wolf Haley’s lyrical prowess but proved that his beats were just as impressive as the edgy lyrics accompanying them.
For Tyler's debut solo effort, Bastard, which he fully produced, the rapper bragged about his DIY approach in the tape’s intro and has continued to handle all of his production on every project moving forward. His uncanny style is often rooted in neo-soul and jazz, allowing him to make slow-riding songs like “2Seater”. But his versatility results in beats like "Yonkers," too. As of late, he's dabbled into 1980's pop with tracks like the Playboi Carti-assisted “Earfquake.”
Upon its release in May of 2019, Tyler’s Grammy Award-winning IGOR album debuted as the No. 1 album in the country, granting him the nod of becoming the only artist in history to have a No. 1 album that was completely arranged and produced by himself. Even with that accolade, Ty isn’t done cooking yet. Instead, he plans to spend these next couple years focusing on producing for others, which he said in an interview with Zane Lowe last year.
With that in mind, his production game isn’t slowing down anytime soon. We can expect a handful of polarizing beats in the near future but until then, XXL highlights 20 of Tyler, The Creator’s best beats.
