Technics SL-1000R turntable to retail for $20,000

Technics new high-end SL-1000R model will reportedly retail for $20,000 ($US). The turntable was revealed during the CES Conference this week in Las Vegas, NV.

Aimed at reference quality playback, the SL-1000R wraps the direct-drive SP-10R (which itself will retail for $10,000) with a high-damping S-shaped magnesium tonearm complete with OFC internal wiring. The plinth on which the SP-10R rests is 531mm wide and 399mm deep, featuring a 30mm-thick aluminium top plate to better match the SP component.

Paired with SP-10R’s 10mm thick brass weight platter, a separated ultra-low-noise switching power supply, and boasting the new “unwanted noise reduction circuit” with a flutter level of 0.015%, Panasonic (Technics’ parent company) claims the turntable has the world’s best signal-to-noise ratio. In all, the complete SL-1000R weighs just under 40kg.

Reports indicate both the SL-1000R and SP-10R will be available Spring 2018.
