The basketball star overdosed at a Nevada brothel in 2015.

“I don’t wake up looking to do lines…or waking up in a dark place or feeling unfulfilled,” Odom went on, adding that friend Kobe Bryant‘s tragic death in 2020 would have brought the “old Lamar” back into the wild world of substance abuse.

“That’d have been every excuse in the world for me to go get high, [but] doing drugs didn’t even enter my mind,” the reality star said. “I wouldn’t want to try to stop to be great. If I have greatness inside of me, I want to try to get it out.”

The Kloud founder said Lamar Odom’s drug habit was ‘heightened’ when he was in the NBA.

In January 2025, Kardashian got candid about meeting her ex-husband and why she decided to first file for divorce in 2013. She had refiled in early 2016 following Odom’s overdose after holding off for three years.

She told self-help coach Mel Robbins on an episode of her “Khloé in Wonder Land” podcast at the time what the downfall was to their whirlwind relationship.

“I remember, I was married and my ex-husband had a drug addiction,” she explained. “And I knew that his addiction always heightened — he was in the NBA — and his addiction always heightened when he was in the off-season, cause idle time is the devil’s playground… It took me a long time to get to, and I had to file for divorce.”
