London-based emcee and producer King Kashmere has officially stepped behind the boards for his 8th studio LP, Zero Point Modulations. Known for his tenure in groups ranging from Kingdom of Fear and Invisible Inc. to Gawd Status, Old Children, and Strange U, Kashmere brings decades of experience to this ambitious new series. Following previous releases like The Album to End All Alien Abductions and Sounds Like Home via High Focus Records, this project marks a significant evolution in his career.
The album opens with “Kulcha” by Gawd Status, featuring Joker Starr’s sharp lyricism over a classic boom-bap instrumental. The energy remains high with “Shadows,” a creative reimagining of the Origin Unknown classic featuring Durrty Goodz, Flirta D, and Harry Shotta. The project continues to showcase a diverse array of UK talent, including aggressive posse cuts like “Big(Bad)” and the technically impressive “Good Morning.”
Throughout the 77-minute runtime, Kashmere demonstrates his versatility as a producer, experimenting with grime, dub, and dubstep influences. Tracks like “I.Y.N.K. (Illest You Never Knew)” by Cappo and “Doin’ It” by Micall Parknsun highlight the rugged, boom-bap foundation that remains central to his sound. The project also features notable contributions from artists such as BVA, Farma G, Fliptrix, and Verb T, each bringing their unique flavor to the sonic landscape.
While the length may be daunting for some, Zero Point Modulations serves as a testament to King Kashmere’s growth since he began focusing on production in 2010. By blending traditional hip-hop sensibilities with experimental textures and enlisting a massive roster of UK MCs, he has successfully kicked off a new chapter in his storied career.
