The creative minds behind South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have officially issued an apology regarding the ongoing production delays of their collaborative comedy film, Whitney Springs. The project, which features the involvement of acclaimed artist Kendrick Lamar, has been a subject of intense speculation for over a year as fans await further updates on its status.
In a formal statement released on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Parker and Stone addressed the project’s current limbo. “We take full responsibility for the schedule delay of this movie,” the duo stated in an interview with The Ankler. “We apologize to our partners at pgLang and Paramount and we appreciate their patience. South Park and life’s circumstances have gotten in the way, but we still believe in the project.”
The film was first announced in 2024 with an initial release date slated for July 4, 2025. Following a shift in the production timeline last April, the release was pushed to March 2026, though no definitive date has been established since. Despite the setbacks, the creative team remains committed to the vision.
During a 2024 interview with Bloomberg Screentime, Matt Stone emphasized the deep level of involvement from the musical side of the production. “Kendrick Lamar is very involved,” Stone noted. “Dave Free is very involved. They are every day working on it.”
The script for the upcoming feature was penned by South Park veteran Vernon Chatman. While plot details remain largely under wraps, reports suggest the film centers on a young Black man working as a slave reenactor at a history museum. The project is also expected to feature exclusive, original music from Lamar that has not been previously released. As of now, fans continue to wait for a new premiere date for what promises to be a unique cinematic experience.
