Lil Uzi Vert and Playboi Carti fans have been waiting for the collaborative effort between the two rappers, and a recently deleted tweet from Uzi might have renewed interest surrounding the project.
On Sunday night (April 12), the Philadelphia rapper posted a cryptic tweet, offering very little details. "Playboi carti 🙃," wrote Uzi. He deleted the tweet shortly after.
While it is uncertain what prompted Lil Uzi Vert's tweet, he gave fans a glimmer of hope back in March when he retweeted an unreleased song featuring Carti. At the time, a fan mentioned Uzi in a tweet, asking if a full version of their record, "Big Bank," would drop. Uzi didn't offer a conclusive answer, but he did repost the track on Twitter, which originally surfaced the internet in 2018.
The collab didn't surprise fans, especially after it was revealed back in 2017 that he and Carti would be working together to create the joint project, 16*29. After collaborating on tracks such as, "Wokeuplikethis*" and "Lookin'," a mixtape from the two rappers didn't seem farfetched.
In 2018, Playboi Carti shared that he and Uzi had worked on about 100 songs together. "We’ve been recording since like 2015,” said the Atlanta rapper during an interview on Real 92.3. “So we know what we got to do. We know what we're capable of. We just gotta do what we gotta do."
The friendship between Uzi and Carti did seem uncertain at one point, particularly after the 2016 XXL Freshman told a fan in 2019 that they were no longer on good terms. However, in March of this year, Lil Uzi Vert told a fan that they aren't beefing.
Maybe the future is still bright for Uzi and Carti's project after all.
