Rihanna smells like heaven and wishes coming true, according to many celebrities who’ve raved about being in her presence over the years. With a distinct scent like that, it’s hard to stay low-key, and is the reason A$AP Rocky was able to tell she was in court during his trial earlier this year when she wasn’t supposed to be there.

A$AP Rocky Could Sniff Out Rihanna in Court

A$AP Rocky faced the biggest legal issue of his career this year when he went to trial in January after being charged with two counts of first-degree assault with a semiautomatic firearm for shooting at his former friend A$AP Relli in 2021. Family showing up to court for support is the norm for anyone dealing with a trial by jury, but Rocky didn’t want his girlfriend Rihanna there, according to his lawyer Joe Tacopina.

On Tuesday (April 8), Tacopina sat down for an interview with DJ Vlad, in which he shared several stories about coming up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, and representing high-profile clients like President Trump and the late Michael Jackson. Most recently, the attorney helped A$AP Rocky get an acquittal of all charges in his gun case. During the conversation, which can be seen in the video below, Tacopina recalled how Rihanna insisted on coming to court despite Rocky saying it wasn’t her problem to deal with. Rocky was facing eight years in prison if found guilty.

“She was in the courtroom almost every day,” Tacopina shared. “Look, Rocky and I had this discussion. I commend him. He’s like, ‘Look, this is my family. This is not their problem, it’s not her problem. I’m gonna deal with this.’ I’m like, ‘I know Rock, but you know, families are there for each other. It’s cool.’ He goes, ‘Joe, she’s Rihanna. I’m protecting her from this. I’m not letting her be here. Let’s not even discuss anymore.”

The top trial attorney told the judge and jury that he didn’t expect the lauded pop star to show up in court, but Rih had her own plans. She let Tacopina know she would be coming into the courtroom and to inform the judge.

“I’ll never forget this, what happened,” Tacopina said. “I knew Rih was coming and she’s in the front row. She walked in 10 minutes after proceeding started, you know, obviously to try and be discreet, and come in and she sat in the front row. It was a relatively small courtroom, but our side, the defense side, was sort of right behind us off to the right—the defense spectator side if you will—and we’re at the table and Rocky doesn’t know she’s there, doesn’t know she’s coming. But I did and I just didn’t want to bother him with that.”

Clearly, Joe couldn’t keep Rihanna being in court a secret for long since Rocky got a whiff of her fragrance. “He’s there, he goes, ‘Joe, I smell my girl. It’s weird, man,'” Joe explained. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, Rocky, you smell your girl ’cause she’s sitting right behind you.’ His eyes got all big. ‘What?’ ‘She’s here, bro. We weren’t keeping her away.’ He goes, ‘Oh damn.’ He starts like smiling and laughing and it made him feel good, obviously, because you know she is one of the greatest and biggest celebrities in the world. OK, one of the most well-known people and she acted like a supportive partner, a mother, didn’t look for special treatment and she is so, such a great woman.”

Rihanna, who even brought RZA and Riot, the two sons she shares with Rocky, to court, has been rumored to wear Kilian Paris’ Love, Don’t Be Shy perfume, a gourmand blend of marshmallow, vanilla and orange blossom. In 2021, she created her own fragrance for her beauty and cosmetics line FENTY, so these days, the singer may be smelling like the concoction she designed. Whatever she wears, A$AP Rocky knows it well.
