It’s been over a year since Kendrick Lamar took a shot at Drake and J. Cole on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” kicking off one of the biggest rap battles in hip-hop history. Things have died down but the aftermath has included Super Bowl disses, lawsuits and more. Now, fans think Drizzy is subliminally trolling K-Dot in the music video for the single “Nokia.”
Drake dropped the video for his $ome $exy $ongs 4 U single “Nokia” on Monday (March 31). And fans on social media have pointed out some similarities between it and Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” video and 2025 Super Bowl halftime show performance.
For one, Drake’s new visual features an ensemble of dancers on a huge stage, similar to Dot’s Big Game set. Other people have noted the appearance of NBA player and Canada native Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the video juxtaposed against Cali native DeMar DeRozan appearing in Kendrick’s “Not Like Us” visual. There is also a handshake in the “Nokia” video that seems to almost mirror a scene in “Not Like Us” and more.
Many of these conclusions seem to be stretches. But that’s not stopping the internet from coming up with all types of ways Drake could be taunting Mr. Duckworth.
Drake and Kenrick Lamar’s beef seems to be dormant at this point. But that doesn’t mean Aubrey is ready to let things go. The Canadian rap star is still pursuing a federal lawsuit against Universal Music Group over the distribution of Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss song “Not Like Us.” Last month, Drake shared an ominous Instagram caption about his next chapter.
“U know I grew up non confrontational and always treated this game as a sport where my pen won gold, but my these days the podium has been hard for all of us to ignore,” the post read. “I understand that this next chapter may leave you feeling uneasy, but I hope you see my honesty as clarity not charity that answers some questions especially about the unanswered texts you’ve been sending me.”
Seems like the next chapter starts now.
