Birmingham-based emcee and producer Sonnyjim has returned with his second extended play of 2026, Rob Ford. Marking his 19th overall project, this release continues a prolific streak for the artist who first made his mark in the summer of 2011 with The Psychonaut. Over the last decade and a half, Sonnyjim has cultivated a distinct discography, including notable collaborations with Giallo Point, Buckwild, Illinformed, Leaf Dog, and Camoflauge Monk.
Following his recent Chinatown Chicken Tour project produced by Sumgii, Rob Ford sees the artist reuniting with Lee Scott. The project captures the familiar chemistry that fans of their previous work, such as Ortolan & Armagnac, have come to expect.
The EP opens with “Tuscan Pleather,” where Sonnyjim leans into his established status as a rap phenom. The project’s sole single, “Krayzie, Layzie, Flesh, Wish-N-Bizzy,” features an appearance from Shyheim and serves as a tribute to the legendary Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. Elsewhere, “Lump Sum”—featuring Jehst and King Grubb—is packed with wrestling references, while “BOGOF” highlights his prowess as a wordsmith.
While his previous release, As Serious as Your Life 2, felt more like a single with a B-side, Rob Ford offers a more substantial listening experience. Though it may not reach the same heights as Chinatown Chicken or Ortolan & Armagnac, it remains a satisfying addition to his catalog, perfectly showcasing the synergy between Lee Scott’s production and Sonnyjim’s unique delivery.
