The family of Sean Gathright, who was recently convicted in the 2024 murder of Jacksonville rapper Foolio, has publicly addressed a wave of backlash directed at them following the creation of a GoFundMe campaign. The fundraiser, which was launched on May 15, aims to raise $24,000, though it has seen minimal support as of this writing.

On May 18, the family took to Instagram to express their distress over the intense hostility they have encountered. According to the statement, the campaign has been repeatedly reported, and the family members have been subjected to severe harassment and death threats. “We want to address recent reports being made against Sean’s GoFundMe,” the statement read. “While we completely understand that not everyone will choose to support, going as far as reporting the fundraiser, sending threats and harassing not only Sean but also his loved ones and family members is truly mean-spirited and completely out of control.”

The family urged those who oppose the fundraiser to simply disengage rather than resorting to vitriol. “To those that do not support [Sean], we respectfully ask that you simply block, disengage and move forward toward causes you do support rather than hate, threats and negativity,” the post continued. Gathright has also utilized his own social media presence to thank those who have offered support during this period.

The legal situation surrounding the case remains high-profile. On May 8, Sean Gathright, along with co-defendants Isaiah Chance, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy, were found guilty on all charges related to the 2024 killing of the rapper. While the jury voted against the death penalty on May 15, the four men are currently awaiting sentencing, which is scheduled for June 22.
