A new music video for the late rapper Rich Homie Quan‘s song “Still Dead” has sparked significant controversy, leaving fans divided over the use of artificial intelligence in posthumous tributes. Released on Friday (May 22), the visual was created entirely using AI technology, depicting the rapper in various settings, including a cemetery and a recording studio, while interacting with his children.

The song itself was reportedly inspired by the tragic passing of PnB Rock. While the estate likely intended the video to serve as a modern-day tribute to the artist, the execution has drawn sharp criticism from supporters who feel the technology is inappropriate for a deceased performer.

“Y’all could’ve gave posthumous music [without] the AI lol This just made me sad [for real],” one fan commented on social media. Another user expressed stronger disapproval, stating, “This is disgusting. Let him rest.”

However, the reaction was not universally negative. Some listeners defended the creative choice, pointing to the practical realities of estate management and the support of the rapper’s family. “He has young kids,” one supporter tweeted. “As long as his estate has authorized it and his family will get paid it’s ok. He likely was the breadwinner.”

Rich Homie Quan passed away in September 2024 following an accidental drug overdose. Since his death, his estate has released two posthumous projects: 2024’s Forever Going In and the 2025 compilation Legacy of Hits, which showcased his most iconic tracks such as “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).”

The debate surrounding “Still Dead” highlights the growing tension in the music industry regarding the ethics of AI-generated content and the preservation of an artist’s legacy after they are gone.
