Rapper Fenix Flexin has shifted the narrative surrounding his viral hit “RUBBERZ,” finally acknowledging that AI played a role in the track’s development. This admission comes after months of the artist pushing back against widespread speculation regarding his creative process.
On Friday, August 7, 2026, the former Shoreline Mafia member addressed the ongoing controversy via an Instagram comment. The discussion was sparked by a fan who questioned his use of technology in light of Tyga’s recent disclosure that he utilized AI for his 1980s-inspired album, $tarface. In his response, Fenix clarified that he never explicitly denied the use of AI, but rather maintained that it was not part of his core recording process.
“Never said I didn’t use AI, I said it had nun to do w recording process,” Fenix explained. “I didn’t even know what da app was till we mixed it and erybody started commenting. Ain’t nothing wrong w using new technology as a tool. Keep up w the times or get left behind.”
When “RUBBERZ” first began climbing the charts—eventually reaching No. 66 on the Billboard Hot 100—Fenix initially attributed the song’s distinct sound to his use of Auto-Tune, reverb, and a stylized U.K. accent. Back in June, he firmly dismissed claims of AI involvement, telling a fan, “No sirrrrrrr, recorded same as all music I do. Only difference is auto tune reverb and me using my fake UK accent lol.”
The debate intensified on July 30 when producer Medasin alleged that Fenix utilized Treblo, a music generation platform formerly known as Sonauto AI, to craft the track. Given the song’s departure from his typical vocal delivery and its 1980s synth-pop aesthetic, fans and critics alike have remained divided on the extent to which technology shaped the final product.
