Los Angeles-based deejay and producer DJ Rhettmatic has joined forces with Brooklyn, New York emcee, singer, and producer Q-Unique for a compelling new studio LP. Emerging originally as a member of The Arsonists and the lead singer of the rock outfit Stillwill, Q-Unique has cultivated an impressive solo discography over the last two decades, beginning with the Uncle Howie Records-backed Vengeance is Mine. Following projects like Between Heaven & Hell, BlaQ Coffee, and The Mechanic, as well as the Pound for Pound EP with Fieldy of KoЯn, this latest collaboration marks a significant return to form.
After the atmospheric intro, “Cypha Up” sets an aggressive tone, encouraging listeners to study the craft while chasing their goals. The project continues with “It Only Leads the Way,” a rugged exploration of the identity crises artists often face when blinded by materialism. On “Fire Vision,” featuring LMNO, the duo flexes their lyrical proficiency over a raw, hard-hitting beat, while “Suckess” offers a poignant reflection on how personal relationships shift once success is achieved.
The second half of the album maintains this momentum. “The Good Life” serves as an anthem for personal growth, followed by “All in the Mind,” which features Ras Kass and tackles the psychological dangers of overthinking. The intensity remains high with “The Meltdown,” a cutthroat battle rap track featuring Esoteric, and “Comic Con Nerd Shit,” which pits the underground rebels against the mainstream stars. The project concludes with the rap-rock fusion of “Let’s Rock” and the introspective outro, “Faith.”
