Alicia Andrews, the woman found guilty of manslaughter in connection with the killing of rapper Foolio, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison. The sentencing took place on Friday, May 22, in a Tampa, Fla., courtroom.
During the proceedings, Andrews saw her motion to appeal the conviction swiftly denied by Judge Kimberly Fernandez. Following the denial, the court moved forward with the sentencing phase, ultimately handing down a 15-year term.
“After having reviewed all of the defense’s assertions as to the defense’s argument as to errors made by my predecessor judge, I’m going to place on the record that I would not have ruled any differently,” Judge Fernandez stated during the hearing.
The sentencing followed a powerful and emotional victim impact statement delivered by Foolio’s mother, Sandrikas Mays. Addressing the court, Mays emphasized the coordinated nature of the crime and the profound loss of her son.
“My son was hunted, followed and ultimately murdered in what authorities described as a coordinated plot involving multiple individuals. It is extremely painful to hear Alicia Andrews portray herself as someone who didn’t know what was going on,” Mays told the court. “They could have turned around, but they still carried on the plan to hunt my son down like a deer in the woods…My son’s life mattered. He was not disposable.”
The case against Andrews is part of a larger legal proceeding involving several other individuals. Four other men—Sean Gathright, Isaiah Chance, Rashad Murphy, and Davion Murphy—were found guilty by a jury on May 8. While the jury opted against the death penalty for these defendants, they remain in custody and are scheduled for sentencing on June 22.
