Newly released bodycam footage has shed light on the 2025 arrest of Playboi Carti, offering a clearer perspective on the incident that occurred in Wasatch County, Utah. The Atlanta rapper was taken into custody last October while en route to a scheduled performance, following allegations of assault involving his ex-girlfriend, Gio, and a limo driver.
The footage, which was obtained by the CufBoys YouTube channel on Thursday, July 30, captures the immediate aftermath of the roadside confrontation. In the video, law enforcement officers are seen conducting separate interviews with both Carti and Gio to piece together the events that led to the police intervention.
During the questioning, Carti maintained that no physical altercation occurred between him and his ex-girlfriend, characterizing the situation as a misunderstanding where his security team attempted to de-escalate a dispute after the driver allegedly became erratic. Gio, while confirming that a verbal argument had taken place, did not corroborate the claim that Carti struck her. She did, however, acknowledge that she had struck one of the limo drivers who intervened during the roadside stop.
The incident is further documented by two 911 calls included in the footage. In one recording, the limo driver can be heard contacting authorities, with sounds of distress and shouting audible in the background. The driver informed the dispatcher that he intended to press charges, alleging that Carti struck him after he attempted to move Gio to a different vehicle following an earlier altercation between the couple. A second 911 call was placed by a bystander who reported witnessing a physical struggle between two men in the street.
Following the investigation, Playboi Carti was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault. Representatives for the artist and the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office have been contacted for further comment regarding the release of this footage.
