Lil Durk will not be taking the stand to testify in his ongoing murder-for-hire trial. On Thursday (Sept. 3), journalist Michael Blackshire reported that the defense had officially rested its case, confirming that the Chicago rapper would not testify, nor would his two accused co-conspirators who are standing trial alongside him.
“The defense has fully rested. Durk Banks (Lil Durk), Deandre Wilson (OTF Dede), and David Lindsey (Browneyez) will not testify,” Blackshire stated in a report shared on X.
As of this writing, Lil Durk is currently on day ten of his high-profile murder-for-hire trial. He stands accused of orchestrating a 2022 hit on Quando Rondo, allegedly in retaliation for the 2020 murder of King Von. While Rondo survived the incident, his cousin, Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, was killed during the altercation.
Throughout the week, the defense presented a wide array of witnesses to support their case, including Tonya Johnican, Kevin Freeman from Durk’s non-profit organization Neighborhood Heroes, and Sanchay “Dharmic” Jain, the former SVP of Marketing at Alamo Records. Testimony was also provided by OTF Jam’s wife and the rapper’s ex-girlfriend, among others.
The legal strategy employed by Durk and his team centers on the argument that he had no involvement in the situation. Instead, the defense contends that one of his alleged co-conspirators, Kavon Grant, also known as OTF Vonnie, was the “mastermind” behind the plot. Lil Durk has maintained a plea of not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison. The court is scheduled to begin hearing closing arguments on Tuesday (Sept. 8).
