Tyga has officially addressed the growing controversy surrounding his latest album, $tarface, clarifying that while he utilized AI as a production tool, the project is far from being entirely generated by artificial intelligence. The rapper, known for his 1980s-inspired alter ego, spoke out to clear the air following public backlash and pointed criticism from fellow artist Doja Cat.
During a recent interview, Tyga emphasized that the core of his artistry remains intact. “What I said was, I used AI-assisted things in the production,” he explained. “All the vocals are me. I wrote all the songs. When it comes to the 80s synths and some of the guitar solos, yes, I used AI for that.”
The conversation surrounding the album intensified after Doja Cat publicly criticized the rapper for his reliance on technology, a sentiment Tyga did not take lightly. In response to her harsh assessment, he retorted, “I love Doja, but she made a demonic album.”
This is not the first time Tyga has defended his creative choices. In a previous discussion, he likened the use of AI to a magician’s trade secrets. “I’ve never spoken on this with anybody because I always felt like it’s similar to a magician explaining how he does his tricks,” he noted. “It’s supposed to give you an experience and a feeling. But we definitely used AI as a tool. It’s no different than when Auto-Tune came out. Some people were opposed to it, but real artists took it and used it.”
As the industry continues to grapple with the ethics of synthetic media, Tyga remains firm in his stance that technology serves as an evolution of the creative process rather than a replacement for the artist’s vision.
