The jury in the Foolio murder case has officially decided against the death penalty for his convicted killers. On Friday (May 15), a week after being found guilty of conspiracy, murder, and attempted murder charges in connection with the Jacksonville, Fla., rapper’s killing on May 8, Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, Davion Murphy, and Rashad Murphy appeared in court for the final day of the penalty phase.
After reviewing closing arguments throughout the week, the jury rejected the prosecution’s request for capital punishment, instead recommending that the four men serve life sentences without the possibility of parole. They are scheduled to be formally sentenced on June 22.
Last October, Alicia Andrews, the fifth individual charged in the case, was convicted of manslaughter. Her sentencing has been postponed as she currently pursues an appeal for a new trial.
During the proceedings, prosecutors successfully argued that the defendants stalked and killed Foolio as part of an ongoing gang conflict in Jacksonville involving the 1200 gang, ATK, and 6 Block, the latter of which Foolio was affiliated with. The rapper was shot and killed on June 23, 2024, while sitting in a car outside a Holiday Inn in Tampa, Fla., where he had been celebrating his birthday.
Investigators established that Isaiah Chance and his girlfriend, Alicia Andrews, tracked Foolio’s movements in Tampa, relaying his location to the other three men. Surveillance footage captured the group opening fire on the vehicle in the hotel parking lot.
