A new collaborative full-length project has emerged, featuring the combined talents of Hawthorne, California-based emcee Kurupt, Brooklyn lyricist Masta Killa, and the legendary Long Island emcee and producer Rakim. Each of these artists brings a storied legacy to the table: Rakim is widely revered as ‘The God MC,’ while Kurupt and Masta Killa rose to prominence as integral members of Tha Dogg Pound and the Wu-Tang Clan, respectively. Their creative partnership, which began with the single ‘Be Ill,’ has culminated in The Godbody LP, produced by Nick Wiz and Rakim under Holy Toledo Productions and Compound Interest Entertainment.
The album opens with ‘Goin’ Down,’ a track that sets a defiant tone against unauthentic rap, while ‘DPG Wu-Tang, Wu-Tang DPG’ leans into a classic boom-bap aesthetic. The project also features ‘Rock Ya Body,’ a powerhouse collaboration involving Tha Dogg Pound, Masta Killa, Ghostface Killah, and Raekwon, which serves as a hardcore highlight before the album shifts into the more introspective ‘Push the Button.’
The project continues to evolve with the ‘Rabbit’ remix, featuring a guest appearance from WWE Hall of Famer Snoop Dogg, creating a quintessential West Coast anthem. Following the ‘God Speak’ interlude, Rakim delivers ‘A Different Kind,’ asserting his unique position in the hip-hop pantheon. The album further explores diverse sounds, from the romantic undertones of ‘Is It Love?’ to the rap-rock fusion of ‘Thelonius,’ which features Buckshot, Rim, and Trigga.
